In popular music, a cover version, cover song, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by someone other than the original artist or composer of a previously recorded, commercially released song.
MY FAVORITE THINGS: JULIE ANDREWS 1959
“My Favorite Things” is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music. In the musical, the lyrics to the song are a reference to things Maria loves, such as “whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens”. These are the things she selects to fill her mind with when times are bad.
7 RINGS: ARIANA GRANDE 2019
The song itself borrows from The Sound of Music’s “My Favorite Things” melodically in the verses and is as much about Grande’s resilience in the face of hardship and her friendships.
