St. Patrick

Saint Patrick was born in Britain in the late 300s or early 400s. He was 16 years old when he was captured and made worked as a shepherd for six years. He then escaped and returned home. After years of religious training, Patrick went back to Ireland. There he converted many people to Christianity. One legend says that he drove away all the snakes in Ireland. Another legend says that he used the three parts of a shamrock leaf to explain his belief in God. He is an example of overcoming hard times.

SONG 1

Sung to: “The Mulberry Bush”

Let’s wear green and dance a jig,
Dance a jig, dance a jig.
Let’s wear green and dance a jig,
On St. Patrick’s Day.

SONG 2

Sung to “Teapot”

I’m a little leprechaun
Dressed in green,
The tiniest man
That you ever seen.
If you ever catch me, it is told,
I’ll give you my pot of gold!

SONG 3

Sung to: 6 little ducks

Five green shamrocks growing outdoors
(Child’s name) picked one, and that left four.

Four little shamrocks, green as they can be.
(Child’s name) picked one and that left three.

Three little shamrocks playing peek-a-boo
(Child’s name) picked one and that left two.

Two little shamrocks nodding in the sun,
(Child’s name) picked one, and that left one.

One little shamrock for St. Patrick’s Day fun.
(Child’s name) picked it, and that left none.
